The Nutcracker

The Nutcracker Hey friends! As the countdown to Christmas continues, I wanted to share a special watercolor we painted. We've enjoyed so many classic Christmas books but this one stuck out to us. We just loved the illustrations so much that it was our inspiration for our watercolor project for the week. I remember as a young girl, my mom took my sister and I to see The Nutcracker ballet. I know I enjoyed myself and thought every part of the performance was breathtaking, but we never read the books after that. Fast forward to adulthood, I appreciate this story so much more. Through the eyes of now being mom, I love seeing the childlike wonder and imagination this story brings. I know many of

Homeschooling with a Newborn: Part 3

Homeschooling with a Newborn: Part 3 Time goes by so fast with babies so enjoy the time you have with them while they're little. Slow days are key for schooling with a newborn. Today I'm talking about something a little different though. Taking care of yourself during this busy season. No, I'm not telling you to go out and get your hair and nails done. I'm not telling you to go shop for new clothes. I'm not even telling you to go take the shower you've been dreaming on for the last two days. I'm saying look to the one who refreshes your soul. Rooted in the One Who Holds You It’s easy to become overwhelmed when the baby is crying and hungry, the toddler runs around the room and knocks 18 thin

Christmas Story

Christmas Story There are so many activities we all try to cram into this month before Christmas. There’s baking cookies, making crafts, going through an advent calendar, reading special Christmas books, writing cards, playing in the snow, and the list goes on and on. The most important thing to teach our children during this time however is that Christ came for us. Good News! It’s Christmas! ties the Christmas story together so well for young children. This rhyming board book has been a favorite so far this year. Get Good News! It's Christmas! now. I created a nativity set made from just large popsicle sticks, paint and lace. It was so fun to create these for our kinesthetic learners. While

Homeschooling with a Newborn: Part 2

Homeschooling with a Newborn: Part 2 Last week on my blog I talked about the importance of one-on-one time with your other children when a new one arrives. I'm continuing my newborn series by talking about another homeschool tip I've learned along the way. Read Aloud Time School can look different depending on what season of life you and your family are in. We normally spend a lot of time reading together as a family and during our homeschool days. When a new little one arrives however, we spend quite a bit more time reading together. We're currently reading through Chronicles of Narnia as a family but we also have a number of Magic Tree House books on our list as well. Spending time reading

God Made Me

God Made Me I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; marvelous are Your works, and that my soul knows very well. Psalm 139:14 Today was a down day. Everyone in our house has been sick with colds and taking care of a newborn can be tough during this time. I’m so thankful for the ability to homeschool and for days where we can take a break and I can give them the care they need. Since it was a down day, we grabbed our Good News! God Made Me! crawled up on the couch together. Afterwards we talked about the book and the Psalms verse that goes along with it. They loved that the book pointed out that the very arms they were cuddling and hugging me with, were created by God. As
