Robotics and Coding Part 3

Lets face it, homeschool robotics and coding resources can be quite pricy. I've had many of you ask me questions about how to cut down on the cost of resources for coding. This one is for all of you! Here's a simple DIY that you can do with materials from home or at a cheaper cost.

Dino Coding Run

Please note that I may receive compensation from affiliate marketing in this blog post.

We got this Elmo matching game for our son for Christmas. The game is just a basic matching game with cards that you flip back and forth. This activity was created with the leftover materials from this matching game, that would otherwise be trash.

The squares in this card cut out is perfect spacing for our dinosaurs to ride through.

I matched the lines up and taped them down to a Sterlite container lid. This made a grid for our dinosaurs to run along.

I had some arrows from our Learning resources Botly, but you can create some arrow flashcards from hand for this activity.

We then placed various rocks, palm trees, and logs around the grid, creating an obstacle course for these cute rolling dinosaurs to ride through.

Our children created the code with the arrows for each dinosaurs to dodge the item in their paths. they had a wonderful time racing each other to see who could come up with a working code first.

Book Recommendation

If you're looking for a straightforward resource for coding, this book is for you. It breaks down the code of brushing your teeth, which really simplifies what coding is and the steps to complete a task.

I hope this activity can help create a love for learning about coding and problem solving.
