The Skeletal System: Part 2 of 5

The Skeletal System: Part 2 of 5

Our children have been absolutely fascinated with learning about the human body. Who wouldn't be? Our Creator in His mighty power, made our bodies so beautiful and so complex. Through this activity, we had the opportunity to talk about how God created all creatures, however when he made man in His own image. "So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them." Genesis 1:27.

I'm happy to share all of these activities within my skeletal system series and many more human body activities with you in hopes it will be a blessing to your homeschool.

Building a Skeleton

I've talked about these tinker toys in the busy bag section of my website. Not only do our children love creating with these pieces, but I incorporate them in many of our lesson plans because of the versatility.

Please note that I may receive compensation from affiliate marketing in this blog post.

We took out our Tinker Toys and a picture of a skeleton from our Apologia Human Anatomy and Physiology book and went to work.

We found pieces from the skull to the phalanges and everything in between. They had a great time trying to come up with which piece would proportionally fit the size of our model. Let their imaginations do the work here!

Magnetic Human Body

Our children love these Melissa and Doug magnetic dolls, so when I saw they had a human body version I was super excited to add it to our lesson plan.

Here's a link for this Melissa & Doug human body set.

The kids such a great time layering the dolls and having a visual of all the complex systems within our bodies.

Body part match

A great game to pair with your skeletal system lesson plan is sight word and body part match. This is a puzzle I found on clearance but, below is a link to a set of 2 puzzles that have sight words right on them.

Regardless of the puzzle you choose, the point of this exercise is to teach your child to match the puzzle pieces with sight words that you have spelled out for them. It's a fun, hands-on activity to teach some body part words.

I hope this activity can help create a love for learning about the skeletal system within your little one.
