Snacks go a long way. Every mom I know has snacks in their pockets, purse, car, diaper bag, backpack, strollers, etc. I can go on and on but you get it. We have them everywhere, don’t we? If we have them ready for a trip to the grocery store or our library runs, why not have them ready in our homes while we're schooling our children as well?
When I have snacks prepared for our children it's easy to pull them out, while everyone stays focused on the lesson or book we’re trying to get through. It simply allows our homeschool day to run smoothly.
These snacks are easy to prepare and sure to keep growing children satisfied.
1. Fruit Cups
I buy fruit when it’s on sale and cut it up when I get home from the grocery store. It’s a perfect time to grab my plastic fruit cups and fill them up with fruit so it’s all ready for the week. These can be frozen or placed in the refrigerator until you want to serve them.
2. Overnight Oats
I make a hot breakfast most days but some days our children grab a quick granola bar and get straight to chores and lessons. On days like these, overnight oats are so convenient to have during snack time. I make a big batch and separate them out in glass baby food jars so that they're individually packed. It gives our children the dairy and carbohydrates they need without having a heavy meal.
3. Watermelon Pops
For some reason when you put food on a stick, it's that much more appealing to children. We grew some watermelons in our garden this year, so these are a huge hit in our homeschool!
4. Veggie Trays
On the days when we’re all sitting at the same table, we grab a veggie tray with ranch. This is a perfect opportunity for us to use up produce from the grocery store or our garden. Some ideas are red bell pepper slices, cucumbers, carrots, celery and tomatoes.
5. Nuts
If your children aren’t allergic, nuts are a fantastic way of getting protein and carbohydrates in. Its an easy to grab snack that we truly enjoy.
6. Goldfish
Our children would live off of Goldfish if I’d let them. This is another quick snack you can grab for your little ones.
7. Yogurt
When topped with their favorite fruit or a small drizzle of honey, this is a delicious treat! If I want to prepare this ahead of time, I will put the yogurt into our WeeSprout Double Zipper Reusable Food Pouches so I can just pull them out of the refrigerator and give them to the children. Tip: On days when you need something really easy and don't want to wash additional dishes, grab some ready made yogurt tubes from the grocery store.
8. Crackers and Cheese Cubes
If you buy a block of cheese from the store and cut it all at once, it's an easy to grab snack. You can either serve this on a tray or individual cups.
9. Smoothie Bowls
Our children love smoothies. Put them in a bowl with a spoon and it makes it that much more exciting to have for a snack.
10. Frozen Banana Pops
This is another make ahead snack that goes a long way. Coat the bananas in peanut butter or chocolate and roll in mixed nuts or dried fruit. Freeze them and grab as needed.
